Forcing A Locked 35mm Camera

Here you can see an example of how a customer forced the advance lever on a 35mm camera that was locked up. He pointlessly destroyed a heavy metal gear. What would have been a simple fix turned into an expensive all day repair. Never force the advance lever on a camera that is locked. You will only damage more parts, and may render the camera unrepairable. Try moving the speed indicator to different settings. (Some electronic cameras will unlock on the B setting.) Change the batteries. Jar the camera by hitting it lightly with the palm of your hand. But, never force the advance lever if it is locked and will not move.
